Stranger Things (2)
I just read where Stranger Things: Season 3 is suppose to start filming this week. I didn't know that when I was binging Season 2 over the weekend. Nice timing! All I knew was that I've been wanting to see Season 2 since it came out last Halloween. Better late than never.
I love this series. But it was no surprise that Season 2 didn't totally match the intensity level of Season 1. Seriously, how could it? Something fresh like that is unique and you can't duplicate it each season.
Having said that, Season 2 did a lot of right things. I liked the way it developed backstories for most of the main characters and how characters were paired off in the end. Nice touch. Keeping the story focused on the personal is the key to success. I hark way back to a show like BTVS as a prime example.
I will also hark back to BTVS for something else. I'm ready for a new villain. It can be something else from the lab or whatever but I'm ready for something else to be threatening our species in the Indiana heartland. And I mention BTVS in that regard because I always thought that one reason the show was a hit was because every season there was a new villain in town that dominated that season. I don't think this will happen with Stranger Things but it should.
The addition of Sadie Sink as 'Mad Max' was a big positive for the show in this season. I also thought that Sean Astin being cast, and his demise going down in the show's folklore, was a brilliant touch. Both of these kept Season 2 fresh.
Reports are the show is good for at least four seasons. I suspect it will continue to be a hit. I know I intend to keep on watching. If you're one of the few people who haven't checked out this series, do yourself a favor and find it on Netflix. Season 2 gets 5/5 on the rating scale.
