Eddie The Eagle
The reason I rented this movie is simple. As a kid I remember seeing Eddie The Eagle jump at the Olympics on television. So, I recall the hoopla of the time but never knew the story behind the Brit who decided to become a ski jumper.
This movie is exactly what you expect it would be. It is a feel-good, family fun, wow that really happened, couple hours that you can sit down, relax and enjoy without out investing too much of yourself into it. The cast isn't an all-star cast, in fact, the only one you'll probably know is Hugh Jackman who does raise the energy of this picture a notch higher.
If you don't know who Eddie The Eagle is, then by all means rent this. It is the story of a little guy, constantly told he can't do something, defying the odds and those in power to achieve his personal best. It is an upbeat story for our times.
The story isn't complicated so this post will be a little shallow on the content. I do wish we had gotten a little more info about the real-life mother who seemed to so supportive of Eddie's efforts. He wouldn't have made it without her. And I do wish we had a glimpse of Eddie after the Olympics but the story cuts off there.
Overall, this is a good film. Not super great but very enjoyable. I give it 4 of 5 on the rating scale. You can find it at the local Redbox.
